EME 2040 Reflections

Some Web 2.0 technologies are useful for the classroom to allow resources for students to interact and share with each other. Tools such as blogs and Diigo are great websites for students to post on and allow other students to read and comment on their classmate’s post. These Web 2.0 websites are easily assessable and user-friendly and also allows teachers to see and comment on posts as well. I do not personally think twitter and wiki are going to be tools I will use in my classroom. I would not use Twitter as an educational tool because it limits characters count and is too informal in my opinion.  I would not use Wiki in my classroom because I find the website confusing, it is not as assessable and is harder to use. A new, interesting Web 2.0 tool I found was Kidblog. Since I am going to be an elementary school teacher, this is a great, simple tool for younger students to create their own blog.         Although I have and used a personal twitter for a while now, this is my first time using a twitter for educational purposes. Since this is only the second week using this twitter account, I have not really interacted with a lot of different accounts. I do follow several verified education accounts and I have seen their tweets along with my classmates. I have not yet found it beneficial, but I do hope that that will change as I continue to use it.          There are a lot of ELA technology standards for teaching ranging from multimedia, context clues, and digital media. I feel I am prepared in some topics of technology that is used in schools, especially have just been in high school and currently in college where some of the same technology is used. For example, I feel I am prepared to teach “SL.5 Use Digital Media,” “W/WHST.2 Write to explain/inform,” and “RI.5 Text Structure: Informational Text,” as some examples. Throughout school, I have used Microsoft Word a countless amount of times for writing papers, homework, projects, resumes, etc. from elementary school to college. Not only for class, but I have used Microsoft Word to create flyers for clubs, portfolio for my competitive event, and design layouts for outlines. To extend my knowledge on the software so I can understand Word and all its settings, in High School I learned the programming  and became certified as a Microsoft specialist. I have seen my teachers use Word to type up outlines and assignments for the class. Although I have not had much serious experience with copyright other than adding pictures from google images to work, using music or sometimes articles, I see with the advancement in technology it’s easier to copyright but also identify copyright. In a world of growing technology, there are a lot of influences on teachers and students to use technology in the classroom. As stated in chapter 1, technology has continuous change. There are always a lot of tools that support teaching and learning. The opportunities created by technology’s evolution offer new perspectives on 21st century learners to enrich and engage. In connection when teachers use technology tools in the classroom not only to make their professional work easier, but also to make learning more effective for students. Technology for students is the learning process and supports creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and active learning. As I reflect on ISTE standards, teacher and student are very similar within connecting in developing digital citizenship, creativity, and decision making. My prior experiences using technology have mostly been within school. In high school, I got multiple certifications in software programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Photoshop. With these certifications, it has advanced my understanding of how to use these resources and have increased my ability to use technology. What I hope to learn in this class is the different types of technology used in Education fields. After this class I hope to be able to take all the things I've learned and apply them to my future work in the classroom and be able to increase my effectiveness of my classroom with technology advances. What I've learned about my learning style is I am very sequential and visual, meaning I work best by seeing steps and following the steps in order. I also learned how much I am an active learner and work through problems and steps first instead of thinking about the problem first.
